How you dare to not include a women in your project. You can't be allowed to work with whoever you want. You need a women. Go find want now. OMFG! People is unbelievable.
Don't be hateful; there are better ways to disagree with someone's criticisms of the project, and reacting to them with ridicule like this only serves to negatively characterize both this project and our community.Personally, I don't feel like it should be an issue. We're talking about game art here, not a theoretical text wherein male artists are appropriating the voices of women. I seriously doubt that the sex/gender of the contributing artists was a factor in Gavin's choices; sometimes things just work out like this.On the other hand, our hobby has traditionally been dominated by men. The OSR is as traditional as it gets, so I can understand why people might perceive the lack of female contributors as problematic. As in most things, the solution to issues like this lies in listening, talking, and respecting one another.
I think that he/she meant sarcasm, but I don't know.
Though I have no practical use for these, I want them want them want them nonetheless. They look absolutely beautiful.
Thanks! As more stretch goals are decimated, the package gets ever more beautiful. We have plans for even more book enhancements at higher levels :)
Just made my pledge! been such a pleasure following the development of these! Fingers firmly crossed for the Dolmenwood source book! :D
Thanks! The KS for the Dolmenwood Campaign Book will probably manifest late this year / early 2020.
Russian-speaking OSR community is excited with this project! Have you considered making a crowdfunded translation?
You probably know already, but there is a Russian translation of the B/X Essentials monsters book already: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1aoBB4ZbPzEw6wpMaHZ2hnZi0RWt9HxMnOnce the Old-School Essentials books are out, I'd be delighted to help anyone who wants to translate the open text!
What about illustrated PDFs in Russian?
Honestly, it's unlikely to happen. Unless I could guarantee a large number of buyers (like at least in the hundreds) it wouldn't be worth the significant effort of producing the PDFs. Sorry!
Hello, Gavin! Can you share with us some information about the Rules Tome leatherette cover design? Thank you for the great project also!
Hi! I'm afraid there's not much to share on it yet. It'll be based on the Rules Tome cover, which is being designed by Peter Mullen. Unfortunately, we're only at the sketches stage of that illustration, so I won't be able to give more of an idea about the leatherette cover design until the main cover illustration is further along. (Not ideal, I know, but there you go.)
I just backed the kickstarter, and it says you will ask for my address later, in order to send the all-in-one book. Is that when you ask if I wish to add on those other two books (classes and illusionist)? just wondering. Thanks! Gary
Yep, once we've got everything set up in the pledge manager, BackerKit, you'll be able to select add-ons, including the Advanced books.
I missed the kickstarter by jsut a few hours. Is there any way I can still purchase these?
Yep, we'll be setting up a pre-order store at BackerKit in a couple of weeks.
Thanks so much!
Hi, just checking to see if the BackerKit store is set up? Thanks!
Not yet. Hoping to get it going next week. I'll post the news far and wide, once the pre-order store is ready.
Will there be a softcover release of these books in the future?
Currently no plans for softcover versions, but who knows, maybe at some point down the line
Thanks for the speedy response!I'd strongly appreciate it since the lightweight/small form factor is what attracted me to B/X Essentials in the first place :)
Yep, there's definitely pros and cons to softcover vs hardcover. In the end, I personally think the pros of hardcovers win out (durability, much higher quality). The reason there almost certainly won't be a softcover edition is that we're already producing the game in two formats (the all-in-one tome and the boxed set). Adding a third format would be confusing to customers, and would decrease sales of the other formats (which translates into increased warehousing fees, as they'd sit around for longer).
Hello there, I'm sure you've already been asked this, but is there any recourse for anyone who missed the Kickstarter to get in on this action? Like, a late pledge that gets us all the stretch goal goodies, etc? Sorry I missed this gem!
P.S. Interested in the Magic-User level...
Sorry, I just saw your comment! Yes, we'll be opening a pre-order store at BackerKit (hopefully next week). You'll be able to order everything from the Kickstarter there (apart from the Kickstarter exclusive version of the Rules Tome).
